  • Idler arm ball joint doesnt ball !

Having removed the idler arm assembly I notice that not only is there no play in the ball joint but theres no movement at all. Its as if it has seized but that may be the tight design I dont know.

Anyone noticed how the ball joint on a replacement idler arm moved - easy or not.

New & Faulty ones seam that way no play when you move it with your hand.
When its on the surf you can move it with a bar etc & see the play.

But Marky i cant move it with my hand thats what I'm saying, theres no movement at all let alone play. Its a ball joint so this seems a bit unusual to me.

I read somewhere that this is a 1 hr job. Maybe if youve done it a few times but otherwise its like any other

I have put my glasses on Jim and I think what marky is saying is:

no play when you move it with your hand because you can't move it with your hand.

You will only get movement when you use a lever or something to assist you.

hehe you've said the same thing Phil but its still confusing

          Play and movement is bad

hence no play when you move it with your hand is good

          BUT

theres no movement ...... is that bad?

I thought I would re-write it in English this time as what I said before was just repeating what Marky said. We don't want two people posting crap otherwise it becomes confusing

Jim, I don't think cos you can't move it that your power steering is gonna have any trouble!

I would expect to have to put it in a vice and use a bar to move it by hand if its new.

or is an old one that you think is rusted up?

oK ME NO ABLO ESPAGNIOL If you have play on the Steering idler Arm Balljoint which is evident when it is all attached to the vehicle.
When it is removed from the vehicle it is still stiff when you try to move it with your hand. There seams to be a lot of force involved when you test it while fitted.
