  • Glow Plugs

    Hi all,

Since the truck came back re-engined I have noticed something.

When cold the car starts but seems to run on three cyls, puffing loads of gray fuel smelling smoke . After a moment this clears and all is well.

I'm guessing this to be a glow plug problem, as it is exactly what the old engine did if underheated on start up.

So thi week end I'm aiming to megger the glow plugs and if necessary throw one of my old ones back in.

Could anyone help me with a map, pictures or directions as to how to find / get to and fiddle with said glow plugs ?

    Thanks,

    Jim

Surely if its got compression problems it would cause the problem more than once a day (first thing in the morning) ??

And yes Marky, I still have the old engine.

same symptoms really, if the bores or rings are slightly worn thats when you would notice it (first thing in the morning) when its cold, lumpy running for a few seconds, diesel not being burnt correctly, take the glow plugs out and check them on the battery one at a time, dont waste money replacing all four as three of them might be ok
