  • Just a question in regard to the auto gearboxes used in Surfs (gen 2 models):

Do the 2.4, 3.0 Diesels and the 3.0 V6 petrol all share the same auto gearbox?
Are there different gear ratios fitted depending on which engine is fitted?
Do the differentials use different ratiosl?

    Or another question might be:

Once I’ve paid to have the head gaskets replaced on my 3Ltr. V6 Petrol, are
there any other major parts unique to the V6 Petrol version that I will struggle to
get hold of should anything else major go wrong? I know the exhaust is
different, but what about the rest of the drive-train (gearboxes, transfer boxes,
    diffs. Etc.)?

    Thanks,

    Paul
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

You shouldn't struggle to get hold of any part as your surf is almost 100% identical to the V6 4runner that was sold in the UK.

Diffs are different on the vehicles..if you look at the VIN plate on the engine bay bulhead you will see the Trim/Axle code.

Something like G294 (on my 3.0) means 4.10 with a rear 4 pinion open diff. Do a search and you'll find plenty of info on the site and links to others.
