  • Fuel Gauge accuracy?

Until recently whenever I've brimmed the tank the fuel gauge has read a bit over the 'F' mark. However the last two tanks that I've brimmed it the gauge reads about an 1/8th under the 'F' mark. I also ran that last tank all the way down until the low fuel light came on, and it was a very long way under the 'E' mark. It's almost as if the gauge had moved down an 1/8th or so.

I know the gauges aren't exact things, but this is markedly worse than it was before now. Anyone got any ideas what might be causing this?

Mine goes up past the F mark when I fill it but I never take it below the 1/4 mark and I've never seen the light come on so I don't even know if it works ...

Got the tank down low again so I thought I'd post a quick piccie to show how low the needle goes. This is before the low fuel warning light has even come on...

It definitely never used to go that far.

            Fuel tank gauge tells lies.

            Drops from full to 1/2 = 100k

            Fill from 1/4 = 30litre

Have brimmed the tank & calculated mpg

            = 25 mpg

So damn happy, thought it was only 18mpg

Thing is that mine never used to lie once it got below 1/4. Above 1/4 it wasn't exactly linear - but thats just a side effect of how the float system works - but it was predictable. By the time it hit the E I knew the low warning light would be on, and then I was down to a little over 5 litres. Now it's going way past the E as you can see.

Oh, and since I've stopped using Veg oil my mileage seems to have shot up, was averaging about 18mpg around town, now getting more like 23mpg around town and closer to 28mpg on a motorway cruise.
