  • 4.0l V8 lexus conversion into hilux

There seems to be a new craze in oz with blokes dropping lexus 4.0l V8's into there 2wd hilux utes. Have any of you members considered or performed this operation on your surf, hilux 4wd or 2wd ute. Besides the ability to do fu*ken awesome burnouts do you know if it was easy to fit? What problems have occured? Realibilty ? Any body got any good or bad stories ? links etc?

JMC is having one fitted to his truck by L.A. Supertrux but I gather it's not been straightforward.

Over here there are a few with Rover and American V8s fitted - the obvious being Surfenstein.

Yotatech.com has a number of links you could search

lextreme.com is an amazing resource - they know some stuff about lexus V8's!

http://www.uzswap.com has some excellent write ups.

So there seems to be a fair bit of v8 conversions going around then. thanks for the good links. lasupertrux do some pretty wild stuff & lextreme had some interesting info.

My main concern with a v8 conversion was the diff ratios as my work mate has a 4 runner in sad need of a new motor. Hes been thinking of fitting a v8 so he can tow his boat easier but is undecided on wether to change the diffs or not.

My mate kel is an old fisherman who told us he fitted his rusty 1981 hilux ute with a petrol 3.3l (202 cu inch) holden straightsix, he kept the diff ratios the same so he'd get better low down grunt to cart off his heavy pilchards. He told us is fuel economy was sheet and the motor revved its guts out but it excelled in its purpose of being the only fishermans ute able to cart full loads up the sand dunes.
The question is should he change the diff ratios ???

What diffs does he have at the moment?

Surfs were usually 4.1 or 4.3.

Some very interesting comments about sticking with Aussie grunt rather than Jap
