  • I think it's buggered

Got the head off Alans truck tonight.

Roughtrax fully built head waiting to go on, hopefully up and running by Monday if we can find a few hours over the weekend.

We found 6 cracks, two in all but one valve seat.

That looks clean for a cooked head.

its not been cracked long, no water pitting at all.

Even cracked across the combustion chambers.

What a pig getting to all the fixings for the hard pipes.
And the EGR got an airsaw put through it, blanking plates being fitted instead.

Ah well the fun continues tomorrow.

Brian, email me those pics please.

Tony, couple of things I noticed, turbo outlet was a bit wet with oil, truck was running fine, turbo spooling up with light whistle and no black smoke, I was told this oil misting was normal, is this correct for these engines?
Inlet manifold and throttle body had the usual tar like residue.

Gonna give everything a good clean before assembling.

it is, I've asked Stevo about it before, he said its perfectly normal, and everyone I've seen does it.

I take the head off with the inlet, exhaust, egr stuff, injecotr pipes etc.. all attached still, and strip it on the bench, its much easier.

Bugger, I knew I should have spoke to you first about stripping it! LOL.

Anyhoo, cheers for reply, I'll get a few more hours at it tomorrow.
