  • Contributions ?

I know its early days, but this new home looks excellent, but we all know new homes don't come cheap, the forum software costs money, as does the hosting etc. I'm unsure as to who exactly has paid for all this, I'm assuming its Andy (Lucky) but surely we cannot expect one individual to pay for everybody's benefit.

I would be more than happy to contribute towards the running of this excellent new forum, as I'm sure most other regulars would be delighted to do too.

    Any thoughts?
    Can this be done?
How best to do it, Paypal etc?

    Morr.

We are thinking about this one and how best to do it.

    Some suggestions may be:

    1. Voluntary contributions through PayPal, maybe give some higher user rights to contributors or maybe just a different user title to show what good people they are.
    2. Paid subscription for Cars for Sale section to enable posting - users could still view.
    3. Everyone has to subscribe - personally a non starter I think as it will limit users on the forum.

It's a good idea to have some kind of contribution. Nigel needs to pay for the webspace and the www.hiluxsurf.co.uk domain, and the forum software did cost money plus the webspace although I ain't too worried as I feel the forum has saved me a load of dosh over the last year.

We could also use money left over for events, barbies (no not the dolls) beer etc. Alternatively maybe we could get some merchandise like teashirts, the stickers, hats whatever and sell them - proceeds above cost to go to run the forum and the Hiluxsurf website.

Anyone got any comments / suggestions?.

    Cheers

#3 Agree with you, might limit growth potential.
#2 Possible but would not raise much in funding.
#1 Probably the best way to go, perhaps restricting things such as posting of attachments, use of for sale and wanted sections etc to those who have contributed.

As already mooted on the thread regarding the stickers, when Colin has sent the stickers to Nigel (Good Man Colin), rather than sending them to all who ask, why not send them to all who contribute to the site, if everyone sent say a fiver or tenner (you do the math, how many on the old forum? how many of those do you expect to contribute, perhaps 50% ? how much is needed to cover costs including possible higher bandwidth charges later if we grow sufficiently), even after cost of P&P on the stickers, the bulk would remain for the fund.

Sounds good to me, OK I'm in Ireland so events probably won't interest me too much (well they would interest me, but probably won't be practical for me to attend, the Missus might not agree, she's from Liverpool and jumps at any chance to visit over the water), but the t-shirts and hat? Yes I'd buy 'em

Well we could always have a small and selctive drinking session in the Shelbourne on my (not very frequent) next visit to Dublin on business.
I'm always up for a few pints of the black stuff in Dublin.

        Cheers

Well i am hoping that once all the paperwork is finalised for the site and i start to update it i aim to see if any dealers suppliers etc would be prepared to place a link/add on the site.
I dont intend to charge the full going rate but just enough to create some revenue to make the site and forum self suffecient. So if we can all wait a while to see if this works no one needs to dip in to thier pockets, so bear with it for now please.

I know I'm new around here, but I really wouldn't mind contributing a bit towards the cost of the site and stickers. Everyone has been so helpful and friendly, and I'm sure Andy's right when he says that the help received here has saved everyone money at some time. I've certainly learned a lot in the last 6 weeks!

Just want to say a big thanks to you all for making me feel welcome, just sorry I can't make it to Devil's Pit on 14th to meet you all!
